Hi, I’m Natalie
Q: What materials do you use?
A: All of my traditional paintings are done in oils - I generally use the Gamblin or Winsor & Newton brand, and I don’t have a preference when it comes to brushes. I use graphite pencils for all of my drawings. For my digital work, I use my iPad pro + the app Procreate.
Q: How did you learn to draw/paint + did you go to art school?
A: I am self taught, but did end up getting a Bachelors in Studio Art from a local college. I transferred once and dropped out a handful of times along the way, and it never really felt like it was right for me - but everyone’s journey is different. I will say this: if your goal is to learn to paint/draw, you don’t need to go to an art school. If you’re dedicated and willing to put in the hours, you will get better. As good as you want to be. Start by surfing the web, there are so many glorious resources out there. Need ideas? Join online workshops, read art books, tune in to some of the skilled artists on YouTube, stare at the thousands of different colors on strangers’ faces, and practice daily! You’ll get better in no time.
Q: How do you make prints/stickers/totes?
A: Until 2021, I was making all of my own prints using my Canon Pixma pro-100, but a couple are from Catprint.com. I do still print stickers at home and use my Cricut Explore Air 2 for the cuts.
As for tote bags, they are hand printed with silk screen by me in my own bedroom!
